On call?

Anyone here ever work on an on-call basis?  What are your
positive and negative feelings about it?  I've been asked whether
I'd be willing to do on-call admin work for a campus computer
lab[1].

What's the usual pay rate for on-call hours?  I'm thinking about
asking for 25%; is that high, low, or reasonable?

I'm also thinking about insisting that they get me a pager.
Being tethered to a particular location doesn't sound like a
great idea to me.
