In theory you should be able to start the X server (in this case x-win32) whenever you want as long as it is before you run the X application while using secureCRT or other X11 forwarding agents, however I do not doubt that there can be some glitches with it. After all it is M$ Windows we're talking about.

The thing I wondered about for months. I could not get X11 forwarding to work
with securecrt. I tried it all. I also tried loggin into my box via xwin32 and
it wouldn't even log in. Then one day I was using securecrt again and
accidentally had left xwin32 in my tray and I was trying again and it forwaded
X11. I know this makes me look like an idiot but I only could this to work by
using securecrt to loginto the machine and having xwin32 run in the tray as x
server locally to be used for the X11 forwarding of securecrt.

I know how to make it work now but I thought X11 should work straight out of
securecrt alone....

nd SecureCRT as it does ssh1 and ssh2 protocols and has nice X11 forwarding capa
bilities (which will be used below)

from your nt box and do something like this:
>
> setenv DISPLAY XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:0.0 (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your nt box's ip
 address)
>
> this essentially tells your linux box that the display for all X apps is the X
-server on your nt box instead of the default. (note: if you're not using csh or
tcsh for your shell, you might need to use something other than setenv)

rom your telnet or ssh prompt and they will display on your nt box.
