sshd is now broke

Have you tried a blank file?  I'm pretty sure sshd has builtin defaults
if a value is not specified.  Also, what OS are you using it with, and
what version of sshd so someone can provide the closest matched
sshd_config?  Do you get errors in the logs on the machine?
