Check out www.dealmac.com
They update it daily and display new hot deals. They are typically pretty
good. It also includes Apple compatible periphereals including dealer
refurbs, etc. It is for the patient.

I would honestly get no less than a b/w g3 which is around 500-600 used.
They take PC100 ram and are all ide inside. They do use firewire, and usb
periphs which pretty much puts you out of all the wanky proprietary Apple
stuff.

I have seen the dual 500's for around 2k refurbed.

You _can_ find G4 towers refurbed for around a grand. If you are going to
get a G4 stay away from the ones without AGP onboard.

Typically the 6-slot macs are at a premium, up until about the month
couple of months ago. but now you can find the 6 slot macs for around 350
a problem with the older machines(pre-G3) is that ram is about 75cents a
meg for them. They can take G4 upgrade cards but I would just stay away
form them altogether.

There IS an expansion chasis, that is basically a standalone tower with a
like 3 slots and IDE that uses a proprietary card (~200bucks) and an
actually chasis expansion where you trade 3 slots for 6 internally which
is probably faster and more comaptible (~500 bucks)

If you really want to know more, ask I could probably ramble on this for
the rest of the night.
