We considered RMS but he is too political for the CC audience. We
tried ESR, even the big kahuna, but all were not interested. A
guy I thought would have been cool and available was Neal
Stephenson author of "Snow Crash" and "In The Beginning Was the
Command Line" but his web page [0] makes it pretty clear he does
not do speaking engagements.
The whole process of finding someone (of national stature) was
really difficult and extremely fustrating. I even tried someone
on the Linux speakers buearu that supposedly lives in East
Lansing and never even got a response!
The whole area of GNU/Linux evangelization needs tons of help.
I am doing my part on a small scale (you know - think global act
local). I am teaching a series of classes [1] to library staff at
MLC on Open-source software. Its been very successful so far.
Every class has been a sell-out.
