In addition to what Sean said, you might consider looking at Hercules. 
http://www.conmicro.cx/hercules/ for starters.  You can then emulate a
'frame on your Linux box, which will give you something to play around
with while you're waiting for the UPS truck to come by with your brand new
S/390....
