Weird stuff. I went ahead and upgraded one of my machine's BIOS' to recognize
40+ gig drives. I then got access to the 45 gig drive via dlgdiag.exe program
from WDC. I wrote out zeros onto the drive which lasted five hours.
I tried mkreiserfs /dev/hdb again and it worked. I also tried writing a
partition table to the drive and deleting it again and repeating my trial and
it worked again. Not sure why I had such trouble at first. I guess that
dlgdiag program is worth something to clean up a drive and reiser is pickier
than ext2.
