Frankly, I don't think that killing X and restarting is a good
solution.  We should be trying to help you get your X to work right
every time.  Let me start by asking what video card you, what xserver,
and what version of xfree86 you are using.  Not that I could help much
but it might get you started.  Also, have you tried googling to see if
anyone else has your problem.  There may already be a solution.
