When I use it, it's for simultaneous access to the
same box for multiple accounts.  For example, if my
wife wants to quickly check her POP mail account,
while root is using XCDRoast and some user who shall
remain nameless has Returned to Castle Wolfenstein,
it's not a problem.  

It would also be convenient if you were developing
something you wanted to test on a variety of different
window managers/desktop environments without a lot of
logging in and out.

It could also be used to show the Windows XP zealot
(if you can find him) that *nix also has "fast user
switching", and it works even if you're part of a
domain! ;)
