It only supports 12-15 charactor length for the share name with no spaces.
Last I knew. It may have been fixed with anything past 10.1.0. 

It is a known issue. Im not sure whether the issue is the client or the 
CIFS/SMB spec though. 

There is a tech info document on Apples site which has a list 
of all the bug fixes and changes between versions. 

As far as the client goes it seems to work well with OS X. 

Your other option is DAVE from Thursby software. I believe they have a 
free single user client license.
