No, if you install LILO again, it will make a backup of the current MBR.
Uninstalling it after that will just copy the defective MBR back.

The map file has historically been /boot/map on RedHat, but check your
/etc/lilo.conf for a line that begins 'map='. Remember, if you're
booting off of a CD and mounting your Linux hard drive partitions, you
will have to keep the paths straight in order for LILO to behave
properly. Also, you can specify the map file location at the command
line using the '-m' switch.

I tried uninstalling Lilo, but it said that it wasn't installed.
I tried to install Lilo, but it complains about a map file.

I have two map files in the /boot folder. A System.map and a System
<bunch of numbers>.map . the command ls is also just showing a file
called map.

Should one of those be specified in the lilo command?

Also, if I install, then uninstall, will it restore the mbr and boot
sectors to how it was before I installed Lilo the first time?
