[GLLUG] Removing Lillo changes to MBR

It worked!!!

Just a quick list of steps I took:

I copied boot.0300 from /boot to a different directory.
Ran 'lilo -I /boot/boot.b -C /etc/lilo.conf'.
Don't know if it was necessary, but I tried booting into Linux. It worked.
I then ran 'lilo -u'. It gave me an error about the Time Stamp being
different but said that if I really knew what I was doing to run lilo -U.
Which I did.

Restart computer

GoBack appears, then Windows. After 4 days, I'm finally in. Nothing was
lost, but every thing was gained. :-)

Now just one more question.

What is the correct way to set up a Windows XP/Linux dual boot? Linux would
be installed on a slave hard drive.

Thanks to every one for their help and suggestions.

Seth

I don't see why not. The file you would need to save will probably be
in /boot and will be named 'boot.x' where 'x' is a 4-digit hexidecimal
value that represents the /boot partition. (i.e. /boot/boot.0300 ==
/dev/hda1)

Would it be possible to back up lilo's backup?

And then copy the backup back to where ever the info is stored?

If that is possible, it seems to me that when you uninstall Lilo, it
would restore the original backup.

If any of this is possible, where is the back up stored?

Thanks,

Seth
