[GLLUG] compiling a new kernel

As it turns out, the problem I had with my new kernel was because I had set 
the wrong processor type in the configuration. I found an email from Alan 
Cox (kernel coder) via Google, in which he said that kernels for Cyrix 
mediaGX processors should be configured for 386 of 486. I set the config for 
486 and tried it..It works like a charm!
