>From my memory of being a comcast subscriber (I left them for Wideopen 
West back last year) I thought they were running dhcp.  If he configures 
his network scripts to use dhcp, he should get *all that*.  If he wants to 
use a local nameserver to do his resolution, he should include the 
PEERDNS=no parameter in the network config file 
(/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/if-cfg.eth0, for example, in 
Mandrake/Redhat), then edit /etc/resolv.conf for whatever nameserver IP he 
wants.

Then again, maybe they've given him static IP's.  Or kill me.
