[GLLUG] Distribution for new users coming from Windows?

I would recommend starting with almost any live-CD distro so users can 
get their feet wet.  I have used Knoppix for years, but have recently 
switched to Kanotix, which is also Knoppix-based but is better for HDD 
installs (smoother fonts is just the beginning).  Sure, I like free, but 
something that works this well is worthwhile on any basis.  I have 
become a big fan of Debian over time, but Linspire and Xandros insert a 
middleman that may not be useful in all cases.  Why pay for "Click 'n' 
Run" when you have "apt-get" and "Alien"?  Of course, broadband is a 
given for almost ANY Linux install these days (and for Windows, 
too--have you seen XP-SP2 downloaded over dial-up?  It's not pretty...).
