I have the Netgear WG511 v3.0. There are at least 2 versions of v3.0, one uses the Prism driver, mine, discernable only by it's "Made in China" notation, uses a different, unsupported chipset. I've been stuck with NDISWrapper or nothing, and had flaky results with it.
I've given up on Linux as the base OS. My new plan is to do a base drivers only install of WinXP, then run everything through virtual machines. This cleans up a lot of driver issues that are frustrating with Linux, and makes upgrading/changing/experimenting easier down the road. I'm sure it will piss off some purists, but it works until I can buy new hardware and choose carefully to make sure I only have supported pieces. This is of course only for a desktop or portable. Servers are a whole different animal, and deserve a working clean Linux install. Fortunately server grade hardware has much better driver support.
