Linux at least allows smbfs mounts directly in fstab.  You need to put 
the authentication credentials in a separate file, unless you don't mind 
passwords being shared openly in the fstab.  The most secure way is 
probably to skip the passwords altogether and have authentication on 
that share be handled by IP address.
