Brief Job Description: This position consults with library staff throughout
the state on library technology planning, public access computing, software
applications for public use, security software, filtering software,
integrated library systems, telecommunications, support strategies, and
purchasing strategies using aggregated discounts. This position administers
and coordinates technology programs and other projects that benefit
libraries statewide. This position approves library technology plans for
E-rate eligibility.
Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's Degree, with preference to those who
have 21 semester (32 term) hours in computer science, data processing,
computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems
analysis, computer programming, or mathematics.
Minimum Experience Required: Three years of professional business and
administrative experience, including one year equivalent to the experienced
P11 level in State service. Experience working with computers, networking,
and current technology, especially in libraries. Knowledge of the needs of
libraries in serving their customers. Proven project management experience.
Other Job Requirements: Specific knowledge of microcomputers, operating
systems, networking protocols, router protocols, Internet protocols, and
telecommunications technologies, required. Ability to communicate
intelligently with subject specialists, vendors, and technical staff.
Ability to communicate verbally, and in writing, and in the electronic
environment. Knowledge and understanding of the library community,
including needs of public, school, academic and special libraries and their
users. Demonstrate successful experience managing large scale projects
involving many 'players'. Ability to talk about technology in non-technical
terms.
