Did you register your connection? Make sure you point your browser at 
http://dhcp.msu.edu/ and follow the directions. It can take a few 
minutes for the system to accept you after that.

I've been bitten by this when I'm off campus for a while, forget about 
the need to register, connect and try to go straight to FTP or IM or 
something.
