One big advantage of a workstation firewall that is above and beyond both the Windows firewall and a NAT router is that you can efffectively block outgoing connections.  Its handy to have a popup menu saying "virus.exe is attempting to contact server xx.xx.xx.xx, do you wish to allow it?"   Granted, it is confusing for end users, but controlling your outgoing connections is just critical nowadays, what with all the worms and virii and phone home programs and whatnot.  One program that does a good job is Symantec Client Security - I'd recommend it above the others for those folks who can afford it.
