[GLLUG] Ubuntu -- is there an installation package?

There should be an icon upon loading the desktop that says "Install". You'll
then be taken to a GUI install program. Alternatively, if you want a
stripped down install-only CD ala Debian, you can download the "ubuntu-alt"
images. Those use the standard Debian-like installer (actually might be from
Debian proper, just modified). I prefer the alt images, as the graphical
installer can be a bit finicky/buggy at times - they seem to have fixed most
problems, but for quick and dirty installation, I prefer old-school
efficiency to pretty graphical effects.
