[GLLUG] Upgrading Ubuntu

I've seen mentions of problems people have had upgrading to the new Edgy
Eft, but I had problems upgrading from Breezy to the second (6.06.1)
Dapper release. It went fine on my computer in Lansing, just as every
other Ubuntu upgrade has, but my other computer was a different story.
At first it appeared to not even try to start X, giving me a text login
and console just like I configured my normal Slackware to do. When I
tried to start X, it failed. xorg.conf was untouched by the upgrade. I
eventually got it to the point where X would start, but it would just be
a gray cross-hatched screen and a mouse pointer. Reinstalling X
packages and the Ubuntu desktop would fail. Finally, after many
attempted installations over top of the mess, I got Dapper running by
installing after a reformat of my Ubuntu partition. That's not what I
wanted originally, but at least I don't use Ubuntu enough to have lost
any data. But, from now on, if I want to upgrade Ubuntu, I'll do it on
a copy of my partition, just to see how it goes.

Has there been very little traffic in this mailing list as of late, or
am I just being left out of it? I receive the digest, not every message
individually, and I have no desire to change.

                                Chick
