Well that's all well and good except that is refering to calling jobs manually using lp or lpr and I have a cups server setup and am not sure how I could integrate this.

I found a link with some code in it

But that is really more work than I wanted to have to do (ie: recompile cups from source.)

I thought it would be a common feature request . . .
