[GLLUG] Eureka!

I had hit reply earlier, not reply to list. But what I had said was that
there IS open-source beer:
http://www.freebeer.org/
Its a Creative Commons lisense on the recipe. And its caffinated! Guarana is
one of the ingredients. I have yet to brew it myself, but...

And yeah, a lot of brewers are very generous with their recipes. One of my
favorite beers (http://www.shmaltz.com/lennys.html) flat-out lists their
recipe on their website. Its for their full batch, but if you do the math,
you can scale it down (but some of the hops are hard to find - I have a
batch in the basement right now that's based on it).

But yeah, you can find a lot of recipes that are close, if not pretty
precise, but even if you find the one that's used, equipment and water
effect the beer, not to mention the fact that most of us don't have a setup
quite large enough for brewery-size batches; a sparge volume of 1389 gal,
and a dry hop of 66lbs... not exactly small.

Speaking of open-source and beer, it kind of bums me out that I can't find a
decent beer recipe manager that's open source. I have Beer Alchemy
(http://www.kentplacesoftware.com/products/BeerAlchemy.html) for my Mac, and
there's BeerSmith (http://www.beersmith.com/), but... At least BeerSmith
runs well (enough) in Wine, but you still need to buy a liscense.
