Information continues to flow, albeit sometimes at a slow pace. Filled a blog entry with things that happened on the weekend, and I'll cover some of it here too. Now that the first couple of weeks of beginning programming instruction is over, I'll do my best to poke my head into this week's meeting, and see where everything's at.
Setup
-----
Looks like we might have access to start setting up around 1:30 or 2pm, instead of the much later times that were discussed before. I'd plan on 2pm; if that's early, there will be something to do, most assuredly. I'll be off shooting firearms, so, no idea if I'll be back by then. I'll be on site for the con as of Thursday afternoon, though.
Parties
-------
The GLLUG room party is all set, though I have to keep reminding Jer that 'Clay' is in fact us. :) If anyone happens to know about any groups that think they're just gonna run a party out of their rooms, they should REALLY get a message to the Hotel Liason for the Con, Jer Lance, so that they can be put into the party block. If they're not, then noise or propped open doors after 10pm will be given one chance to shut down...on request #2, they'll be asked to leave, and on #3, that'll be the hotel calling the authorities. Our party's fine, but this is for anyone reading who has friends elsewhere. :)
InstallFest
-----------
A few weeks ago, the last Thursday meeting I was it, I was pondering the Con. The other two 'events' in the Lounge, the Keysigning Party at 11am Saturday (duration: 2 days and 2 hours...hrm...that's a LONG time...) and the Ubuntu Packaging Jam at 3pm Saturday (duration: 2 hours) were pretty scheduled, and I wondered about the InstallFest from a process viewpoint. Was it just a matter of 'happening all the time, whenever people are around' or was it an 'event' with a start and stop time?
Well, apparently, it's the latter. A bit of chattering back and forth, and the idea of having it take up multiple 2 hour slots seemed to be a consensus. Knowing the other event times (in and out of the lounge), I suggested a few times, and moved on, thinking, okay, the practiced hands will take care of it.
Mid last week, someone mentioned that the blurb in the 'proposed' Souvenir program was somewhat incorrect. I also noticed that we still had no InstallFest on the schedule, in anyone's mind, or on the dabbleDB that the con uses. So, a bit of offlist discussion with a couple of people while dealing with OTHER hot items for the Saturday meeting, and tossed myself a number of things to deal with at the meeting.
And then, nobody I needed to talk to them about, were there. Was fine. I didn't get back to town till about 10pm on Sunday night, so I started catching up on things. Made a new blurb for the Souvenir Book. Made a data page for the InstallFest so I'd have a link for the Souvenir Book and/or the Program Guide. Sent in times and dates for the 'Fest based on, since I hadn't heard anything from anyone else, the times I'd bandied about: 9-11, 1-3, and 5-7 on Saturday.
They're good slots, because, well, this *IS* really only a one-day con. Yeah, there's overlap...right on TOP of the packaging jam, in fact. Like either of those are going to pack the place wall to wall. So, they're the slots I submitted. Then I finished posting. Now I read 'well, decisions haven't been made'
What? We're two weeks away! Deciding time should be long over, people. As far as actual date/time, the souvenir book points to the program guide, the event text in the program guide points to http://www.gllug.org/node/69, which is my brand new InstallFest document prototype. As with '62', it's intended to be updated and edited by anyone who can do so without hacking and with a sense of knowledge and authority. If that's a date/time edit, hopefully Programming gets notified in time.
Rollover Memberships from Last Year
-----------------------------------
This got mentioned and dismissed very early at a GLLUG meeting; basically, it was expressed that some people chose last year to roll their volunteer rewards into registration for THIS year. It was a good time to ask about it on Saturday, so I did. I was basically told "they dropped the ball last year; I have no records". If anyone wishes to pursue this, I was told to get names...your name, the name of the person you told/were told by that this was going to happen, and about what date the discussion happened, and things would be done. This branched off into a discussion about how to make this work better for THIS year, so, if you're going to spend Wuffies on a membership for next year, it should work out MUCH better.
I think that's pretty much it for now. Jabber away as usual :)
