In the future, use checkinstall for an easy way to create a package 
while compiling.  It replaces the final step, make install, and then you 
install the resulting package.  I believe it is compatible with 
Slackware's .tgz format, RPMs, and .deb packages, but you might have to 
specify which one it produces on the command line if it doesn't default 
to your distribution's package format.
