I like the idea, too. 
Between now and whenever this happens, we might try to get some idea of who might benefit by being gifted with these "potluck" computers.

I like this idea. Despite my best efforts at not accumulating too much crap, I still find myself periodically needing to get rid of a small pile of perfectly good (if somewhat outdated) hardware.
