Why not run IPconfig /all  from the command line and see if you get an appropriate response on IP, DNS network mask ect.   

If that's honky dory .....   Try pinging localhost and then your router and then something outside of that like www.msu.edu.  


Look up those commands and try them and get back with us on your results.
