I would think that if someone broke into their network they could go
undetected for a while.  If they didn't try any mass data grabs, I
would also think that they would be able to just leech little bits
here and there.  From the articles I have read on similar hacks like
this, it only ever seems to get detected when the mass data grab
occurs...I may be generalizing things by saying mass data grab...I
just can't think of a better way of saying the hacker(s) are stealing
all of the info they can or at least viewing tons of data.

So, I guess to sum up my little rant, yes, they could be wrong about
the date...I would assume they picked the date they did based on when
they first detected it, possibly they went back a day or two.

As for how securte PSN is...wouldn't know....I don't have a PS3, but
any network can be hacked given enough knowledge and resources
available.  Always a good idea to run your credit report regularly if
you store your credit/debit card info online anywhere.
