BSD is a lot more different than the other Linux distros.  Since
you've tried both KDE and Gnome on a Debian-based distro, I would
recommend you take a look at an RPM based distro like Fedora (better
if you are interested in proprietary apps for servers) or Mandriva
2010.2 (great desktop and UI - my preference).
