[GLLUG] Disk issue?

Thanks guys! I figured the drive was probably failing.

Did some Google research and found that it likely has bad sector(s) that
are giving read errors.

Usually, from what I read, the disk will try to reallocate the data from a
questionable sector to another
area on the drive. But when the drive was booting, the disk attempted and
failed to do that.

I used an option from hdparm to force reallocation of that sector.

Fortunately, there was little data on the drive to begin with. So nothing
lost...

Thanks again for the suggestions. Always a good learning experience.
