Well, to add an odd pair of data points...

I have Thunderbird configured to not download message attachments 
greater than 300KB.  I received both of Frank's messages with a notice 
that the attachments weren't downloaded, but could be downloaded by 
clicking on embedded links.

Later, during the same on-line session, Thunderbird again downloaded 
those two messages AND their attachments, without asking me for 
permission.  I also received Clay's short message a second time, but it 
had no attachment.

Is it Groundhog Day already????
