Why not spend the time to learn enough about Samba to use it?

I started using Samba in 2002 or so. After some twiddling I got it to
export drives, so my Windows sheep had disks. It's been so reliable
that I've not had to think about it except lately now that disk space
is running out. Learning about Samba isn't networking, it's how to
tell Samba where disks are to share and what to call them.
