I bought a cable modem from Amazon to replace the one that Comcast was 
renting to me. Upgrading from DOCSIS 2.0 to DOCSIS 3.0 doubled my 
connection speeds, got rid of the monthly rental fee, and prevented 
stupid problems like this one.
