Well, it may be that Fedora is a non-starter.  The laptop I wanted to 
install it on has a non-PAE CPU, and Fedora (as well as a lot of other 
distros) doesn't appear to support that.  It looks like I could install 
the next-to-last version of Scientific Linux (based on RHEL) on it, though.
