[GLLUG] I had an idea, now, How to Find a good developer?

In addition to what everyone else has said, nothing you've revealed thus
far is particularly novel. That item in particular is discussed a lot, and
I'd be amazed if there weren't at least dozens of such applications
available. In fact, for my HCI class this term, that was one of the ideas
mentioned, and then struck down as a potential project for us. You might
have something novel, but given the area you indicated, my guess would be
no.

If I were you, I would register the domain name and/or trademark if you can
afford it, disclose everything that wouldn't be considered a trade secret
or otherwise privileged information for any such hypothetical employees
under NDA, and get your estimates from there. That will at least get you a
lower bound (though I say figure a minimum 3X the estimated hours, if not
5X for any hourly bids. If you don't know how to write a formal
requirements document, you may need to hire someone to help you with that,
too. If you can't communicate what you want to your architect, he may
create a beautiful, elegant system that does something completely other
than what you intended. Use this to determine if it's even worth looking
into an NDA, etc. for your trade secret to pursue further.

By the way, make sure you read any software licenses carefully and consult
a lawyer if needed. Things like the AGPL are specifically intended to keep
people from extending source code to make proprietary web systems and then
keep that code from the community. Licenses would also need to be factored
into any estimates with your architect.
