[GLLUG] Fwd: Is Modern Linux Becoming Too Complex?

It's getting even worse, really...

The same basic tech behind ksplice is now getting merged into the kernel
proper, so soon we should see more mainstream distros offering no-reboot
kernel upgrades. So, you will only need to reboot for systemd and the like.

Not trying to derail this too much with the systemd reference, but there is
a whole class of developer now on Linux that is in general hostile to the
Unix way of doing things and are basically in a fight to re-implement the
various MS-Windowisms (including the binary event logs) on Linux. It's as
if they just followed the rest of the developer crowd over without taking
the time to understand that the Linux environment was doing so well largely
because of the simplicity of interfaces and the fact that everything was
interchangeable and end-user customizable.
