The topic suggested by David seems very interesting. I would happy to bring along an old laptop for a demo if needed.

Though it’s a bit on the basic side, I’d be willing to run through keeping an old machine useful by wiping it and turning it into a BOINC/Seti at home box.

No one has suggested topics, but it would be nice to have a demo/class or two. I would suggest that complex subjects would be better for our group if they were about what the piece of software/hardware can do, and not a great amount of detail of how to do it. For example (this is not criticism of previous presenters), if we were to have someone demonstrate something like Puppet or Ruby or a web server, I think it would be better if you focused on its capabilities rather than train us to use it. An exception to this would be if you want to demonstrate a particular skill that others might find useful, such as a demo we had many years ago about how to create realistic-looking flames with GIMP. Another example would be how to configure a simple firewall for a desktop PC using a firewall configuration tool, a specially-designed distro, or iptables rules by themselves. I think topics of interest to wide range of users would be better, too, but feel free to disregard my opinion.
