[I'm not quoting anything because I have nothing to directly
respond to.]
Personally I'd very happy to see a boot menu in selected labs
that let me choose what OS to run. Booting Linux could be a lot
faster than booting Windows, for that matter; at least if it
didn't insist on going into X, which I rarely use.
Not gonna happen though, I'll guess.
I actually had a project going once that allowed me to boot Linux
on any random lab machine by loading a kernel from my AFS space
then booting NFS-root from my computer, pfaffben.user.msu.edu.
The only reason I didn't finish was lack of time; my "proof of
concept" initial implementation *worked*.
This was in fall semester 1997, before lusers and crackers had
entirely ruined everything on the Internet. At the time I was
planning to make it publicly available to anyone who asked for
an account. That would never fly today. *sigh*

I've added lots of photographs, some of which are actually
decent quality.
