I agree. Maybe you should check out a users' mailing list for
your distribution, seeing as you don't seem to have attracted any
guruic advice from linux-user (yet).
(I'm pretty sure you aren't using Debian because AFAIK there
aren't any XFree86 4.0 packages for it yet.)
