Yeah, I had problems getting the password authentification to work correctly.
However, I did eventually get it going by reading ENCRYPTION.txt.  It's located at:
/usr/doc/samba-2.0.6/docs/textdocs/ENCRYPTION.txt, at least that's where it is in
redhat.
