Alright, I finally bit the bullet and installed a real Linux OS -- =
Mandrake 7.0. I installed LaTeX with no problems, got xdvi up and =
running, and all was well with the world. Then I went to find dvipdf. =
It looks to me like dvipdf is part of the ghostscript package. So I =
looked on my Mandrake CD and lo-and-behold, there was =
"ghostscript-5.10-17mdk.i586.rpm". This is what happens when I try to =
install it:
[root@egore RPMS]# rpm -i ghostscript-5.10-17mdk.i586.rpm=20
error: failed dependencies:
ghostscript-fonts is needed by ghostscript-5.10-17mdk
[root@egore RPMS]# rpm -i ghostscript-fonts-5.10-6mdk.noarch.rpm=20
error: failed dependencies:
ghostscript is needed by ghostscript-fonts-5.10-6mdk
[root@egore RPMS]#
So, apparently, I need to install ghostscript-fonts before ghostscript. =
However, ghostscript-fonts requires ghostscript. WTF? I figured that =
this might be because of the old RPM that I'm using, so I downloaded the =
ghostscript-5.5*.rpm and the corresponding ghostscript-fonts-5.5*.rpm . =
I got the exact same errors when installing these.
So, my question is, what's going on? And, is there a different way for =
me to get dvipdf ?
Oh, and as a disclaimer, I don't always use "root", just when things go =
wrong and I need to make sure permissions aren't a problem (such as when =
installing new RPM's...).
Thanks!
