apache ssl certificates and apache user authentication

Good Afternoon,

I have a problem that i just can't figure out, and it is very
frustrating....I created a self-signed certificate with apache and openssl,
it works fine...https://www.gccmha.org...however, I also set up user
authentication for a directory with the httpd.conf file.
The problem is, when I try to access this directory over the secure
connection, it prompts me for username and password, which it should, but
after entering the username/password combination, my browser hangs for
several seconds and then I get the infamous internet explorer "the page
could not be displayed" error. This only happens when I try to access the
protected area over https, not over http. Any ideas?
