[GLLUG] Meeting Thursday, July 14

Another weekly GLLUG meeting is scheduled to be held at the Gone Wired 
cybercafe in Lansing at 6:00PM. Gone Wired is at 2021 E Michigan Ave in 
Lansing on the north side of the street between N Clemens and Fairview 
avenues. Here is a map with the (approximate) location:

We typically meet in the back portion of the cafe on the lower level.

Agenda: Network fortification and penetration testing

Over the next few weeks, our goal is to set up a minimal but 
fully-functioning "typical" network consisting of a firewall (or two) 
and a few protected machines behind it. Then, we'll attempt to 
penetrate our own defenses and monitor network activity on either side 
to see what's going on and discuss ways to plug potentially vulnerable 
holes in the network.

Last week, the test machines were being set up and loaded with 
appropriate software. This week, setup of the network will continue and 
the actual security testing may commence. Stop by if you're interested 
in learning more about basic security provisions or if you happen to 
have some related knowledge that you'd like to share. Any are welcome 
to help with this project, but know that we are NOT attempting to test 
the network security of the cafe itself or that of its patrons. We 
don't have their permission for that, and it's illegal besides.
