Oops, I forgot to say that there's nothing wrong with socially oriented
meetings, but that alone is not what I'm looking for.

Michael's suggestion would be perfect for me--the best of both worlds.

And I'll repeat, I think that using MeetUp would be a good idea. Numerous
other tech groups in the area use it to good effect.
